DUP ATTEMPTING TO MISLEAD PUBLIC OVER BREXIT TRADE PROPOSALS – ANDERSON

SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the DUP are attempting to mislead the public over proposals on post-Brexit trade.

Martina Anderson said: “There is a growing acceptance that the imposition of an EU frontier on the island of Ireland would devastate trade.

“That is why more and more people are now accepting the fact that the north should remain in the single market and customs union.

“This is the best solution for our economy, safeguards and political agreements.

“Despite what Nigel Dodds claims in his attempts to mislead the public, there is nothing in that proposal that would impact on west-east trade.

“The only way it would impact on trade between the north and Britain is if Britain made it an issue.

“It would also be consistent with the Good Friday Agreement which may explain Nigel Dodds’ hostility as the DUP have never supported that Agreement.

“Once again it shows that the DUP are attempting to put their own politics and that of the Tories ahead of the best interests of the people of the north.

“Instead of engaging in petty party politics, we need to see everyone working collectively to secure special status for the north within the EU,” added the Sinn Fein MEP.
