OVER 30 events are planned across the Derry City and Strabane District as part of this year’s Community Relations and Culture Awareness Week between 18th and 24th September.

The aim of the Northern Ireland wide initiative is to engage with the public and urge them to consider and embrace the growing cultural diversity that exists in our local community.

The theme for this year is ‘Safe Space: Shared Place’.

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Community Relations Officer Angela Askin urged local people to come out and support the events.

“Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate all aspects of our culture and heritage, to promote cultural diversity and help tackle sectarianism and racism,” she said.

“It provides a platform for organisations and groups from the community and voluntary sectors, arts, culture, sport, education to showcase innovative approaches to good relations and building a united and shared community.”

“The initiative can only succeed through the engagement of the wider public and I would urge people to get involved by attending and contributing to the events next week.”

The Executive Office, The Department for Communities, The Department of Justice and other government agencies are supporting the week, and events are being organised by a wide of bodies, including the Council, libraries, museums, community and voluntary groups, and youth organisations.

A full list of events is available to download on www.derrystrabane.com/crweek17 or contact the Good Relations Team on 028 71253253 for further information.
