Derry born Andrea Harkin to direct BBC’s Come Home drama series
BBC One’s new three-part drama Come Home will be directed by Londonderry’s Andrea Harkin, Northern Ireland Screen has announced.
The new series, which will begin filming in Northern Ireland this month, is written by BAFTA and International Emmy award-winning screenwriter Danny Brocklehust.
Come Home will star English actor Christopher Eccleston and Belfast actress Paula Malcomson, and will explore “the messy realities of parenthood, marriage and what happens when a mother switches the reset button on her life”.
Eccleston plays father and husband Greg dealing with the aftermath of his wife Marie, played by Malcomson, walking out on him and their three children.
The series will look at what leads to a mother walking out on her family and what impact it has on everyone, as well as what caused Marie to leave in the first place.
Harkin has previously directed three episodes of BBC3’s drama-thriller Clique, starring Aisling Franciosi (The Fall) and Louise Brealey (Sherlock).
Her most recent short film The Party was nominated for a BAFTA for Best British Short 2017 and has screened at many festivals internationally, also winning the nomination for the European Film Awards: Best European Short at the Cork Film Festival.

Come Home will be produced in partnership with the BBC and Northern Ireland Screen.
