Tech giant Kainos creating 15 new jobs at its digital hub in Derry

TECHNOLOGY giant Kainos has announced the creation of 15 new high-tech jobs at its digital hub in Derry.

Kainos, which currently employs 27 people in Derry, is recruiting consultants to work for its WorkSmart division, advising major companies in how to implement people management and financial products.

The employer says the roles will require “a mix of technical and consulting skills”, adding that a salary of up to £42,000 will be on offer for successful candidates.

Kainos, which provides digital services and platforms, celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Londonderry base with the jobs announcement.

The firm’s chief executive, Brendan Mooney, said: “A workday consultant performs a role that is different to the traditional software engineer in Kainos, and requires the ability to listen to others and to understand how to make digital systems meet their needs.

“It’s a really interesting and varied role, with a clearly defined career path.

“The success of our digital services is built on the strength of the relationship we have with our customers, and that’s what makes this role so important.

“We’re proud of our achievements in the north west since opening five years ago and plan further growth over the next 12 months.

“This recruitment drive will support our ambitious European expansion strategy.”

Sinn Féin’s Elisha McCallion has welcomed the jobs announcement by Kainos.

The Foyle MP said: “The creation of these new jobs by digital platform company, Kainos, is welcome news for the city.

“These are high-end technical and consulting jobs with this global firm and will pay above the local average.

“These jobs will provide a welcome boost to the local economy and will add to the firm’s existing workforce in the city.

“It is good to see companies like this expanding in the city and further establishing Derry’s reputation as a digital hub.”

Kainos, which employs 1,000 people in eight offices across Europe and the USA, opened its Derry office in 2012 as part of a £10m investment.

The tech firm came in at number 44 in the Sunday Times Top 100 ‘Best Companies to Work For’ earlier this year – making the list for the fifth time in a row.

Kainos, one of the North’s few listed companies, is a digital services company specialising in information technology expertise for a number of clients, particularly in government, financial services and healthcare.

Kainos was established 30 years ago as a spin-out from Queen’s University in association with Fujitsu.

The business is headquartered in Belfast but has other offices in Dublin, United States and Poland.

The company will be holding a recruitment open house day at its Derry office in Timber Quay on October 5, which starts at 6 pm.
