MELVIN COMPLEX NOMINATED FOR PRESTIGIOUS FAMILY FRIENDLY AWARD

DERRY City and Strabane District Council’s Melvin Sports Complex in Strabane is contending for a prestigious regional title that recognises family friendly entertainment venues.

The Families First Awards have been running bi-annually for the last decade and seek to acknowledge people and organisations across the North West who display excellence in putting families first and accommodating children of all abilities.

The Melvin Complex has been nominated for Best Activity Provider at the awards which will be announced at a gala night at the Abbey Hotel in Donegal town on October 7th 2017.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh, offered his congratulations to all the staff at the Melvin on their nomination.

“Well done to all the staff at the Melvin Sports Complex on this prestigious nomination which is just recognition for their dedicated work in accommodating people of all ages and abilities at the centre,” he said.

“The centre offers a wide range of family activities including a multi-sensory indoor play area, bouncy castle, two outdoor play parks and birthday party packages.

“As well as the activities, the staff take care to ensure the individual needs of every visitor is met with particular attention given to the special needs of the disabled.

“Good luck to the team at next month’s awards and enjoy your night!”

Other activities available at the centre include an international standard sports hall that accommodates a variety of sports ranging from netball, basketball and badminton to indoor tennis, volleyball and up to 7 a-side football and cryotherapy recovery and injury prevention services include a 42 jet CryoSpa for both individual and team sessions.

The complex also hosts a number of modern function and meeting rooms, catering facilities, free wifi and car parking for all customers.

Externally the facility is currently undergoing a major £1.1 million upgrade with a multi sports 3G pitch currently being constructed which includes two football pitches, a rugby pitch and a gaelic pitch, which will complement the current grass pitch and running track.
