SINN Féin politician Elisha McCallion has welcomed the launch of the Gasyard Féile 2017 and encouraged people to attend festival events.

The Foyle MP said: “Today marks the opening of the Gasyard Féile 2017, one of Derry’s largest and longest running community festivals, now in its 25th year.

“The Gasyard Féile symbolises everything positive about the city and celebrates community, empowerment and achievement.

“It also provides a platform to challenge attitudes, stimulate debate, raise awareness of important social, political and environmental issues.

“Most of all, it is a chance for the community to get together and have some fun.

“Today also sees the start of the Maiden City Festival in the city which also adds to our rich cultural offering in Derry.

“So it promises to be a great week for locals and visitors alike and I would encourage people to attend as many events as possible,” she added.
