DERRY City and Strabane District Council have launched a new series of local business engagement events to help identify and develop potential opportunities available to businesses throughout the city and district, who participate in council led events.

The series kicks off on 19th September at the Guildhall with an information session titled, ‘Prepare to Trade’, for local businesses interested in large scale events.

Representatives from council’s business, events and marketing teams will join Tourism NI experts and local business owners to discuss forthcoming events planned for the city and district, the audience profile for each event, how events have benefitted local businesses and details of councils new ‘Business Support Programme’.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh said the event is a must for local businesses.

The Mayor said: “I would encourage any traders and small business owners to take advantage of the variety of large scale event opportunities available to them across the city and district.

“This is an opportunity to hear from a range of council departments and specialists within the industry how council events can benefit your business.”

Louise Breslin, Business Manager at Derry City and Strabane District Council added, “Our aim with running this event is to up skill prospective traders so they can benefit from council’s forthcoming events.

“Over the next year there will be a number of high profile events such as; Halloween, Christmas, St Patrick’s Day Festival, Foyle Maritime Festival, Jazz Festival and the European Capital of Culture 2023 bid.

“This information session will provide traders with everything they need to know about the new and exciting opportunities available to them.

“With expert advice on hand from Tourism NI, Council’s events, marketing and business teams as well as businesses who have already benefitted from past events you can learn everything from how to obtain a license, funding opportunities, details on any fees that may be applicable and what events are planned for the year ahead.”
