SINN Féin Housing spokesperson Councillor Tony Hassan has welcomed the news that Braidwater is to invest £60m in building over 400 new homes in the Skeoge and Belt Road areas of the city.

Two hundred will be built Skeoge and a further 219 at Birch Hill on the Belt Road.

Councillor Tony Hassan said: ”I welcome the development of these new homes at Skeoge and at Birch Hill on the Belt Road in the Waterside area of the city.

“This £60 million investment will create hundreds of much needed construction jobs over the next three to four years and support local firms in the supply business.

“It sends out the message that the housing market is picking up again in the city.

“It will allow first time buyers a chance to get on to the housing ladder.

“I will also continue to lobby at every opportunity to ensure that the need for new social housing schemes in Derry is kept firmly on the agenda,” added Cllr Hassan.
