Derry and Strabane PCSP outgoing chair Gus Hastings

DERRY and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership has announced that it will allocate over £170,000 to local projects from across the City and District.

The announcement was made at its June meeting and a total of twenty six projects are now set to benefit from funding under the small project support scheme.

Speaking about the awards Councillor Gus Hastings, outgoing Chair of the PCSP said: “These awards are excellent news for our community partners who work tirelessly to deliver safer communities for all our residents.

“I am delighted that our PCSP has been able to contribute significant financial support to local groups and partnerships that will deliver local solutions to local issues.

“Awards have been made to groups working right across the council district to tackle anti-social/anti-community behaviour, reduce fear of crime, reduce incidents of domestic and sexual violence, increase youth engagement and support the delivery of drugs and alcohol initiatives.

“Some of the organisations who will be supported through these awards include, Dennett Interchange, Foyle Women’s Aid, Off the Streets, Clooney Residents’ Association, Strabane Athletic FC, Dunluce Family Centre and Destined.

“The level of support that has been allocated by the PCSP this year underlines our commitment to working with all our partners to deliver safer, shared and more confident communities for all.

“Finally, I would like to pay a special tribute to our young people who have engaged so productively in our initiatives over the past 12 months.

“Their dedication, commitment and creativity has been an inspiration to me during my term as Chair of the PCSP,” Councillor Hastings concluded.
