POLICE in Derry have arrested three men aged 34, 47 and 48 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of offensive weapons in a public place.
Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “Police received a report that a 19 year old man had been assaulted by three men and beaten with wooden sticks in the Barrs Lane area of Ballymagroarty in the city around 5.30 am on Sunday 2 July.
“We would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information that could help our investigation to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 436 of 2/7/17.
“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The three men were taken to Strand Road police station for questioning.
They have been released on police bail pending further enquiries by detectives.
