Harkin: The world is watching Rafah

People Before Profit Councillor Shaun Harkin has called for mass resistance to any further incursion into the besieged Gaza city of Rafah:

“We need feet on the street. A full military invasion of Rafah will lead to thousands more civilian deaths.

“Israel’s allies claim that they have told Netanyahu to end his genocidal war.

“Biden claims to be ‘deeply concerned’ about the plight of the one million Palestinians that are as risk from a new large scale Israeli assault.

“Biden’s belated condemnation of Israel amounts to little more than weasel words.

“If the US government is serious about stopping the Gaza genocide they should simply cut off all military assistance to Israel. It really is that simple.

“Throughout the world those in power have let down the Palestinians. The actions of governments are completely at odds with the people they are supposed to represent.

“Westminster has been a bastion of genocide supporters. Stormont has done nothing to stop the slaughter. The Dáil government has repeatedly refused to stand up to Israel, the US and the EU.

“In contrast, ordinary decent people have risen up against Israeli genocide.

“People Before Profit salute the students across America who have faced down violent thugs to keep the flame of resistance burning.

“The students of Trinity College and other universities across these Islands have been inspirational in standing up for humanity.

“Now is the time to intensify our protests.

“Not only must we do all we can to stop a massacre of extraordinary scale in Rafah, we must continue to build a justice movement to hold the genociders and their accomplices to account.

“People Before Profit are proud to support the IPSC rally tonight at 6:30 pm at Free Derry Corner.

“We must keep speaking out for Palestine.”
