FOUR LANE CARRIAGEWAY FOR BUNCRANA ROAD NEEDS TOP PRIORITY – HASSAN

SINN Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has called for the Buncrana Road to be prioritised.

The local Transport spokesperson said: “Transport N.I are considering bringing the mid-section of the Skeoge link road into a four lane carriageway or just a four lane upgrade.

“A report was given to the most recent Environment and Regeneration committee meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council.

“While i welcome any new road infrastructure in our city and mind you we have been neglected in the North West for many long years it has to be put in the right prospective.

“Firstly, the road between the Ballyarnett Roundabout and Glenabbey roundabout is not a priority at the moment.

“Does it need a four lane carriageway? The answer is yes.

“It needs a four lane carriageway but the main road infrastructure that should be the priority today for Transport N.I, is the Buncrana Road.

“I would argue that this road needs to be a key priority.

“It is the main road corridor into Donegal and would see the regeneration and development of that part of the city.

“Transport N.I say that they want to upgrade the Buncrana road but don’t have the £60m to do the work.

“If the money can be found for the upgrade of the Skeoge Link Road then I say to Transport NI and the Department of Infrastructure that a similar focus is put on looking at funding for the Buncrana Road.

“We need to unlock the key in the regeneration in that area of the city in the next five to ten years,” added Cllr Hassan.
