Sinn Fein councillor Caoimhe McKnight

SINN Féin Councillor for the greater Shantallow and Culmore areas Caoimhe McKnight has welcomed the news that Derry City and Strabane District Council are giving local young people an extra incentive to get out and active during the school holidays with the return of their popular £1 Summer initiative.

?

This  incentive offers a range of activities including swimming, squash, table tennis, badminton, five a side football and basketball for just £1 per session for under-18s in the months of July and August.

She said: “The summer holidays is always a very expensive time for parents with children off school and also trying to keep children occupied over a two month period.

“So this initiative by the Council is a welcome move.

“It will also help encourage more children to get out of the house and away from TV and computer screens and take part in healthy exercise and that can only be a  good thing,” she added.
