ANDERSON TO ATTEND BREXIT HEARINGS IN BRUSSELS

SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said a series of hearings on the impact of Brexit will take place in the European Parliament in Brussels this week.

Martina Anderson said: “This week, as the formal Brexit negotiations begin, a series of hearings will be taking place in the European Parliament to look at the impact of Brexit.

“There is widespread concern about the Tory Brexit agenda and the total lack of direction coming from the British government about its approach.

“The hearings will look at various implications of Brexit, including the constitutional challenges and implications, the impact on fisheries, culture and many other aspects of Brexit.

“They will be addressed by a range of experts and I and other members of the Sinn Féin European Parliament team will be in attendance to make sure the views of people in Ireland are heard.

“Given the disastrous impact Brexit will have on the island of Ireland, it is more important than ever now that the formal Brexit negotiation process has started that we secure designated special status for the North within the EU and that the Irish government joins in the efforts to secure that,” she added.
