ACCLAIMED local artist Rita Duffy will be taking part in the next Your City, Your Art workshop taking place at the Tower Museum, a special series celebrating the very best local talent.

The fascinating monthly workshops are part of the Creative Community Connections project, funded by Esmee Fairbairn, and organised by National Museums Northern Ireland in partnership with Derry City and Strabane Museum and Visitor Service.

The series offers the opportunity to gain a unique personal insight into the work of some of the most influential artists hailing from the region, as Curator with the Museum, Roisin Doherty explained.

“Your City, Your Art offers the opportunity for people to access and learn more about works from the art collection of the National Museums Northern Ireland and our own collection here at the Tower Museum.

“The pieces are put on display and discussed in an open forum, which allows both art enthusiasts and those new to art, to reflect on the works and hear more about the artist, their life and their motivation.

“You don’t have to have any previous knowledge and we hope that by giving more access to publicly owned art collections it will change perceptions and encourage more people to take an interest.”

Belfast born artist Rita Duffy is the latest local figure to share her story, and she will talk about her work alongside one of her own paintings from the National Museums Northern Ireland collection.

Duffy is one of N. Ireland’s best known artists who exhibits her work widely on both sides of the Atlantic.

Her pieces focus on a wide range of themes from the domestic and personal to the political, and she renders her views in a variety of mediums.

Why not come along and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with the artist and hear more about her journey from street artist, sign writer and illustrator to full time artist and social commentator.

Your City, Your Art will take place on Thursday May 25th from 10.30-11.30 in the Tower Museum. The event is free and no previous booking is required for this open session.
