Sinn Fein councillor Sandra Duffy

SINN Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy welcoming progress of Council’s proposed Community Centre development programme and approval of continued engagement with the Department for Communities to secure additional funding for the Galliagh Community Centre and Shantallow Community centre.

She said: “News on the Galliagh Community Centre is welcome progress with the facility providing much needed space for local community groups who are currently operating out of Housing Executive flats throughout the area.

“Work on the Shantallow Community Centre is a long overdue redevelopment but we need to caution against any reductions in the building as it may result in the building not meeting the identified need.

“Shantallow is not simply a community centre it is also a sports facility and is used widely as such by the local community and we would therefore not want to impact on this.”
