SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has called for the release of Palestinian prisoners currently on hunger strike in Israeli jails.

Speaking at a Palestinian solidarity vigil in Derry’s Bogside on Friday night, Martina Anderson said:

“Sinn Féin sends international solidarity to all Palestinian prisoners, their famiies and the wider community.

“Palestinian prisoners and internees are suffering torture, inhumane and degrading treatment and other privations in Israeli prisons.

“There are currently close to 1,500 Palestinian prisoners on a hunger strike led by Marwan Barghouti.

“Israel, the occupying power, has violated international law in multiple ways for nearly 70 years, and yet has been granted impunity for its actions.

“The international community cannot stand idly by and look on.

“People across the world can show solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners and people by supporting the BDS campaign and boycotting Israeli goods.”
