THERE is sadness across the North West this morning at the news that a Donegal woman has died after falling from a boat into Lough Erne.

The woman, aged 30, went overboard into the water near Devenish Island near Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, at approx 1 am this morning, Thursday, April 13.

Her body was recovered shortly before 2 am and she was pronounced dead in hospital an hour later.

The woman was on a family holiday with her husband and two young children when the tragedy occurred.

Her husband made the 999 call to police at 1.20am to say that she had fallen into the water.

It is reported that he jumped in and tried to save her before emergency services arrived.

The two children were asleep on board the rental boat, which was said to be moored at the time.

PSNI have said that a post mortem is expected to be carried out and an investigation is underway.

A spokesperson said that emergency workers performed CPR on the woman for an hour after she was recovered from the water.

Ambulance, fire service, police and coastguard workers all attended the scene last night.
