BODY FOUND IN DERRY CONFIRMED AS MISSING PENSIONER JOHN CONCANNON

Derry pensioner John Concannon

POLICE in Derry have today confirmed that the remains found earlier this month near a street where that of missing pensioner John Concannon.

The confirmation comes following a formal identification process using dental records and DNA.

John’s remains were found in the Lenamore Road area of the city on Saturday 11 March, has now taken place and they are that of missing man John Concannon.

Mr Concannon was last seen in the Lenamore Road/Beragh Hill area of the city in November 2015. He was 71 at the time.

Mr Concannon’s family have been informed.

It will be a huge relief for John’s family who can now organise his funeral arrangements in the coming days.

They, along dozens of volunteers, had carried out extensive searches for John on both sides of the border after he went missing in November 2015.

It is believed John, who was in his 70s and was suffering from dementia at the time, got off at the wrong stop while getting a bus home.
