The scene in Strabane following the bomb atack earlier this week

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’S Terrorist Investigation Unit have arrested a man over the attempted murder of PSNI officers in Strabane.

The 20-year-old was detained in Newtownstewart this morning, Friday, March 24, in connection with the attack and is being questioned in Belfast.

Three officers on patrol cheated injury when a device exploded in the Townsend Street area of the border town on Tuesday night.

A security alert is still ongoing in the area and police have described a “complex security operation involving a bomb and a command wire”.

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell, who is leading the investigation, said: “We appreciate the understanding and patience of local residents as we continue to carry out our enquiries.

“I would appeal for anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area to contact us.”
