NEW SAFETY RAILINGS TO BE INSTALLED OUTSIDE BUSY BLIGH’S LANE SCHOOL

Sinn Fein councillor Patricia Logue

SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has said new safety railings are to be installed outside St John’s Primary School on Bligh’s Lane in Derry.

She made her comments following a meeting she held with Transport NI and the Principal and Vice Principal of St Johns.

Councillor Logue said: “I am glad that this decision has been reached. Anyone who is in and around Bligh’s Lane on any week day will tell you how busy it is particularly at peak times of the day.

“You have hundreds of children attending St Johns Primary, the adjacent St Cecilia’s College and the nursery school.

“It was apparent there needed to be a couple of additional safety measures in and around St Johns to prevent any accidents taking place there.

“Transport NI have now agreed to install new railings at the school and paint the road safety markings in the area. It’s anticipated that this work will take place in the next 4-6 weeks.

“It was also agreed that there is a need to look at the situation outside the nursery school.

“She went on to say

“I would also appeal to motorists to show due car and attention whilst travelling through the area particularly during school hours and also the same when parking in around the schools there.”
