GREEN LIGHT FOR 78 NEW HOMES AT TOP OF THE HILL

78 new homes to be built on site of Former Immaculate Conception college at Top Of The Hill in Derry

SINN Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson has welcomed the news today that the go ahead has been given for 78 new houses on the site of the former Immaculate Conception College site.

He said: “I welcome this much anticipated housing development, the only significant social housing development in this part of the Waterside in a generation.

“For many people currently homeless, this development is the only prospect of them finding a home of their own.

“The development on this derelict school site will benefit the community as a whole, linking the road network from Corrody Road to Trench Road as well as bringing the football pitches back into use.

“The school site is also earmarked for a new purpose built community centre so the granting of permission today is an important step in what is an exciting time for our community.

“While this development provides hope for many on the housing list, in my opinion the 78 houses will merely scratch the surface in addressing the housing need in the greater Top of the Hill area.

“We need to be working towards delivering further developments in order to address the housing crisis we currently see throughout the city,” he added.
