THE Walled City Market will make a welcome return this weekend when it opens to the public for the first time since Christmas.

The popular food and craft market is organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council and takes place on the first Saturday of the month every month from March to December.

Held in Guildhall Square, the monthly market offers a wide range of speciality food traders with fresh breads, vegetables, meat, homemade jams and preserves as well as handcrafted products such as textiles and paintings.

Nicolle Walters, Market Development Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council is looking forward to the market returning to Guildhall Square this Saturday and welcoming new and existing customers along to sample some of the finest locally produced food and craft products.

“We are really looking forward to this new season and welcoming our traders back to Guildhall Square for what we hope will be another busy and successful Saturday.

“The stalls open from 10 am to 4pm and offer a wide range of top quality fresh produce at affordable prices.

“We also have street food and a wide range of locally produced craft products for sale so if you are out and about on Saturday make sure and come along,” she said.

She explained that the Walled City Market has been going from strength to strength since it was re-launched this time last year.

Council has been investing in the market in an effort to support local business and encourage local producers to promote their products and showcase local business traders.

The market is also an important way of encouraging additional footfall into the Guildhall Square and a popular attraction for visitors to the city.

The market will operate from 10am to 4pm, on the first Saturday of every month with the first one this season scheduled for Saturday, 04 March.

Anyone interesting in finding out more about trading at the market are asked to contact Nicolle at [email protected] or Tel: 02871 376506.
