SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has announced that Mary Lou McDonald TD, Sinn Féin’s all-Ireland Spokesperson on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention is holding an event on positive mental health in Derry this week.

It will be held this Friday, February at 3.30 pm in an Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin Great James Street.

The speakers for the event are Caolán Doherty, Mickey Doherty and Sarah Curran of Men’s Action Network.

All will bring their own experiences to the event.

Said the former Mayor of Derry: “The event is open to everyone and I would encourage as many people as possible to come along.

“It has become abundantly clear to me from previous events that people clearly want to talk about and be heard on this issue.

“They are about listening to people, giving people a voice, and talking about issues close to their heart.

“The harrowing stories we have heard time and time again across the country illustrate some harsh realities for those with mental health issues.

“I would encourage all those concerned with mental health, suicide awareness or addiction to attend and we look forward to seeing you there.”
