SINN Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has welcomed the news that the Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard has given the go ahead for a major £105,000 road resurfacing and reconstruction scheme on A2 Clooney Road at Judges Road in Maydown.

Councillor Fleming said: “I am pleased that this vital work is taking place .We have been raising concerns about this section of road over the last number of years. Residents have also been campaigning about safety issues along it.

“In November past our Sinn Féin council team held a meeting with the Transport NI Divisional Manager, and his staff.

“We raised a number of important issues across the City and District .Top of our agenda was the ongoing issues with the Clooney Road Dual Carriageway.

“This is a very busy road with hundreds of vehicles using it daily so on that basis  clearly something needed to be done there as a matter of urgency.

“Hopefully this work will now address those concerns and improve safety,” added Cllr Fleming.
