FOYLE SEARCH AND RESCUE STAFF COMMENDED FOR HELPING TO SAFETY ‘AGITATED’ MAN AT BRIDGE RAILINGS

FOYLE Search and Resuce has praised its staff who helped an “aggressive and agitated man” to safety in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened around 1.45 am this morning while FSR staff were carrying out their nightly patrols along the Foyle.

In a statement FSR said: “In addition to carrying out the current daily searches & sonar sweeps Foyle Search & Rescue volunteers send out Patrols on a Thursday,Friday & Saturday from 21:30hrs to 03:00hrs.

“At 01:45hrs 12/2/2017 CCTV informed FSR Teams on duty that there was a male on the railings at a location along the waters edge.

FSR Boat Crew, Mobile Unit responded along with Shore Patrol and observed a male in a highly agitated and aggressive state.

“He was removed from the railings and restrained for his safety.

“While ensuring the safety of the male prior to PSNI arrival, four FSR volunteers received minor injuries.

“The male was then handed over to the PSNI and removed to a place of safety

“Duty Teams on the night are to be commended for the way they dealt with the incident.”
