Drugs found in the boot of a car stopped by police, Detectives believe the operation disrupted an organised crime gang

PSNI detectives have arrested two men and search a house in Derry after uncovering a stash of suspected herbal cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of £160,000.

The arrests were made as part of an intelligence-gathering operation against an organised crime gang.

Police say officers stopped a car in the Duncrue Street area of Belfast at around 8.15 pm on Wednesday evening.

During a search, police found the suspected drugs.

Two men, aged 28 and 31, were both arrested on possession and supply of drug offences and are assisting police with their enquiries.

A house in Eglinton, was also raided and mobile phones were seized.

Acting on PSNI information, Garda officers carried out further searches at two properties in Co Donegal.

This led to the further seizure of around £20,000 worth of herbal cannabis, a quantity of cash and drugs paraphernalia.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure, from the PSNI Reactive and Organised Crime Branch, said: “I believe this intervention has struck a blow to the activities of an organised gang involved in serious drug criminality.”

“The PSNI is committed to making Northern Ireland a hostile environment for those in their community who are involved in serious drug criminality. We will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.”

The senior detective added: “Anyone with any information about drugs or any illegal activity should contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
