James Kielt levelled the match in additional with a valuable point

IT finished honours even this afternoon as Derry opened their account in the Alianz league division two game against Clare at Celtic Park.

The Oakleafers lead from the first half by a single point at 0-06 to 0-05.

Clare had three good chances in the first half to score but missed them, including a great block from Derry keeper Ronan Murphy.

Jamie Malone, who watched his shot flash past the goal in the first 35, made up for his miss when on 43 minutes he scored the only goal of the game for the visitors.

Two minutes later Niall Loughlin cut the deficit to one with after he converted a 45.

On 48 minutes Emmet McGuckin was fpuled and Mark Lynch scored the free to level the match at Celtic Park.

But Clare went up the field on 51 minutes and Eoin Cleary converted a free. The Bannermen were back in the lead by a point.

It took another eight minutes before Derry could find a score and it came in the form of Niall Loughlin who point from open play.

As the clocked tick down to the final ten minutes of play, the Oak Leafers made a number of changes: Gavin O’Neill replaced Conor McAtamney and Jack Doherty came on for Peter Hagan.

With the game entering the final minutes, Clare missed another chance to score a goal but the visitors scored a point from the foot of David Tubridy. Six minutes of normal time left and Clare had a narrow lead.

And then it was Derry’s chance for a goal but Clare keeper Hayes saved from Danny Tallon.

Derry are still in the game with five minutes of additional time announced.

And there was that man James Kielt again with his trusty boot on the 13 metre line and his score levelled the game with three minutes of additional time to go.

In fact, it was to be the last kick of the game and Derry got a deserved draw.
