THE Western Trust says that four wards at Altnagelvin hospital have now been closed due to an outbreak of a winter vomiting bug.

Admissions to the wards have been temporarily suspended because of the outbreak of the Norovirus.

Patients with symptoms have been put in isolation and movement between wards 7, 31, 32 and 40 is now limited.

A Trust spokesperson said: “Our Infection Prevention and Control Team is continuing to provide advice to staff and increased infection control measures have been put in place.

“To protect our patients and staff, we are asking people to avoid visiting the hospital unless absolutely necessary in particular if they are feeling unwell, have any symptoms of Norovirus (Winter vomiting bug) or someone at home does.

“Those who are visiting are asked to thoroughly wash their hands before and after visiting.

“Visitors should visit only one patient whilst at the hospital, refrain from sitting on hospital beds and not move from ward to ward when visiting.”
