RHI SCANDAL DEBATE: END THIS LA-LA LAND CHARADE AND CALL AN ELECTION, SAYS MCCANN

PEOPLE Before Profit MLA Eamonn McCann has demanded that an election is called “as quickly as it can be arranged”.

The Derry politician was speaking as First Minister Arlene Foster read a 15-page statement to the Assembly.

The SDLP has tabled a motion of no confidence in the First Minister and asked that she step aside for six months to allow an investigation be carried out into the Renewable Heating Incentive scheme.

Many MLAs walked out of the chamber including DUP ‘whistleblower’ Jonathan Bell.

Last week he told the BBC that he was prevented from stopping the scheme after he learned that the cost was spiralling out of control

Speaking in the Assembly today, Mr McCann said: “It is perfectly clear that [this house] is not operating as intended,” he says.

“Procedurally, it seems to me we are now in la-la-land limbo-land.”

“Please can we stop this charade.”
