SINN Féin councillor Patricia Logue has welcomed the news that the Lonemoor Road has been placed at number one in the priority list for a traffic calming scheme.

And the Braehead Road has been placed at number three on list.

Councillor Logue said: “I welcome the news that the section of Lonemoor Road in the vicinity of the Showgrounds area and the Braehead Road at Nixons Corner have been deemed suitable for traffic calming measures.

“Lonemoor Road was assessed for traffic calming during 2016 and as a result is now currently placed at number one in Transport NI priority list.

“They intend to take forward this scheme during the 2017/18 financial year notwithstanding any objections to the scheme.

“The Braehead Road has been placed at number three and will proceed in 2018/19 if no other scheme scores higher that it in the intervening period.

“I have been lobbying for traffic calming measures on both roads for some time now following concerns being raised with me by local residents about road safety.

“Hopefully these schemes will now be able to proceed as planned,” she added.
