GAA CLUBS GET BEHIND DERRY CHRISTMAS JUMPER RECORD BID

gaa-santa-jumpersLOCAL GAA clubs are getting behind Derry’s bid to get into the record books again.

The historic Walled City, Peace Bridge and Ebrington have all featured as iconic backdrops to successful record attempts for the most Santas, brides and Annies respectively.

This time the city is going for the most people in the one place wearing Christmas jumpers.

Members of the Live Life Lisa Orsi Foundation who have just returned from the Asian GAA Games in China have all pledged their support for the record bid.

They represent both city and county clubs including Na Magha, Doire Colmcille, Sean Dolan’s, Steelstown Brian Og’s, Doire Trasna, Ardmore, Claudy, Banagher, Craigbane.

As well as getting Derry into the Guinness Book of Records, the event aims to raise both funds and awareness for a number of local charities, including Muscular Dystrophy #TeamEvan, which is supported by Louise James, who lost five members of her family in the Buncrana Pier tragedy earlier this year.

The other charities are Children in Crossfire, Foyle Hospice, Concern and the Mayor’s charities (Tear Fund and Action Cancer).

The record attempt will be on Sunday, December 18.

People are asked to assemble in Waterloo Place and the count will take place as they go through Magazine Gate before going on to the Walls.

For more information and to register to be part of the world record attempt, simply go to www.foylehospice.com

The current Guinness record of 3,473 is held by Kansas Athletics (USA).

It was set on December 19 last year at a men’s basketball game against Montana in Lawrence, Kansas.
