The 22-year-old will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2017 season.

But he does have an option of a second year if he wants.

“When the opportunity came to come back and work with Kenny (Shiels), I just jumped at it,” said Timlin.

“I wasn’t happy with my return last season even though I still got into double figures.

“I want that to be a recurring factor for me that I’m always in double figures and hopefully I can push on this season.

“I’m delighted to be back and I’m looking forward to the new season.

“I’m sure Kenny is looking to get another few players in, but there are some serious young players coming through here and hopefully they can push on again next year.”

Another man who re-signed for the club was teenage centre-back Scott Whiteside, who signed a new one year deal.

On Monday, Harry Monaghan re-signed for the Candystripes for the new 2017 season.
