Funeral servict held ths morning for former nun and “much loved” Loreto Douglas who died in car crash on Glenshane Pass last week

POLICE investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Glenshane Road outside Dungiven last Wednesday morning have renewed their appeal for witnesses. 

Loreto Douglas, aged 64 tragically died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Ms Douglas, a former nun from the Culmore area of Derry, was the driver of a Volkswagen car that was involved in a collision with a Ford Transit van and a Citroen Dispatch van at approximately 9.15am close to the Ponderosa bar and restaurant.

She was on her way to a funeral in Newtownards, Co Down when the collision happened.

Ms Douglas was airlifted to hospital in Belfast by PSNI Air Support Unit but later died from her injuries.

Three men and a woman were also taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

Inspector Ian Armour has made a fresh appeal for witnesses.

“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the Glenshane Road Wednesday morning, November 23, and who witnessed the collision, any vehicles stopped on the road or any pedestrians prior to the collision to contact local police in Limavady or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 230 of 23/11/16.”

Ms Douglas was buried on Monday following Requiem Mass at Thornhill church.
