COUNCILLOR TONY HASSAN ballyarnett picSINN Féin Housing spokesperson Cllr Tony Hassan has welcomed the proposed development of 3,000 new private and social homes in the H2 site at Buncrana Road area of the city.

“After 13 years of campaigning to have this site developed we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and the long saga of the H2 site has ended,” said Cllr Hassan.

“I have to commend the new owners/developers for buying the land at Buncrana Road.

“The development of this site and the building of 3,000 private and socials homes will provide hundreds of jobs and bring work to the construction industry in the city which will take many construction workers off the dole.

“I would also welcome the decision by Fold Housing Association to build 300 social homes on the site.

“And with the waiting lists for social homes standing at 2,300 I would call on the Housing Executive and other housing associations to look at this site for the building of social homes.

“This development will help the regeneration of the Buncrana Road area.

“I have said time and time again that the H2 site could be the place to help bring the housing waiting lists down in the city to allow the many homeless families a home of their own.

“It’s also very important as we move forward to look at the entire infrastructure which includes roads, community facilities, and park lands,” added Cllr Hassan..
