Translink fare reductions in Derry could help get more people out of cars and onto buses to help congestion, says Cllr Kevin Campbell

Translink fare reductions in Derry could help get more people out of cars and onto buses to help ease congestion in Derry at Christmas time, says Cllr Kevin Campbell

SINN Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell has welcomed the news that Translink is working with Derry City and Strabane District Council to encourage more people onto public transport in the run up to Christmas.

Translink is putting on a wide range of fare offers over the next month.

Councillor Kevin Campbell said: “I welcome the news that Translink is to put on reduced fares and is working with the Council to get more people to use public transport in the run up to Christmas.

“I would encourage everyone to check out the various deals on offer which cover the train services, 212 Goldliner between Derry and Belfast, and local bus services.

“We must be doing all we can to get people to use the various services Translink offer.

“It takes more cars off our roads, helps reduce traffic congestion in around the city centre  which at this time of year can be hectic.

“It will also encourage more people to come into Derry to do a day’s Christmas shopping and in turn help the local bars, cafes and restaurants.

“So it’s a win -win for everyone,” added Cllr Campbell.
