POLICE are warning those selfish thieves who steal defibrillators that the law will catch up with them.

It follows the recent theft and damage to life saving equipment in East Derry.

Another defibrillator was stolen from outside a shop in Derry city in August and the thief was later hauled before the local magistrate’s court.

A police spokesperson said:

“If any member of our community needs access to a defibrillator, to save the life of a loved one or stranger, the call handler can direct them to the nearest one.

“They are usually outside local shops.

“They will save someone’s life, but only if they are not stolen or damaged.

“There has been a recent trend over the weekend of defibrillators being stolen.

“Not only is this a theft, it’s putting someone’s life at risk.

“The thing about shops is they usually have CCTV.

“So if someone wants to be that selfish and stupid to steal or damage one of our community resources it won’t be long until we catch up with you.

“If any members of the public have information in relation to this, give us a ring on 101.”
