SINN Féin Councillor Patricia Logue has held talks with Transport NI over a number of issues around street lighting in Derry.

The meeting discussed the lack of street lighting in the greater Killea, Nixon’s corner area,

And she lobbied for the provision of street lighting along a section of the main Letterkenny Road.

Councillor Logue said: “There have ongoing problems with street lighting in Killea, Burnside Manor and Ballynacross Meadows for some time now.

“I have been in discussions with Transport NI to see if there could be a resolution to the problems there, there have been ongoing issues about some of the developments being unadopted.

“Transport NI have told me they will deal with the light outages in Burnside Manor and hope do so as speedily as possible.

“They will also continue to try and resolve issues around the adoption of these sites.

“I am very disappointed that the request for the provision of street lighting along the Letterkenny Road between from the turnoff to Burnside Manor and Killea Village has also been assessed and turned down.

“They said this section of carriageway comes under our Rural policy for the provision of street lighting.

“This states that lighting shall not be provided unless there is a reasonable development with direct frontage access i.e. 10 houses within 200 metres of carriageway or where its provision would contribute to the reduction in after dark accidents when there is no alternative solution.

“I will continue to lobby to them on this issue as both I and residents believe that there should be lighting along this section of very busy roadway,” added Cllr Logue.
