CHRISTMAS jumpers have been flying off the shelves in Derry as the city prepares to try and break a world record.

The city is planning to go Christmas crazy on December 18 as it triesto get the most amount of people in one place wearing festive jumpers.

Even the local clergy are joining in the fun.

The target to beat is 3,474.

There are a number of charities that will benefit from the funds raised by the attempt, with one of those Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Louise James is taking part, raising money for her son Evan who had the muscle condition and who drowned along with four other family members in the Buncrana pier tragedy earlier this year.

The city has been marked out as the place to go for record.

In recent years 13,000 Santas, brides-to-be and Annie-clad members of the public all took to the streets of Derry in world record bids.
