Man assaulted in Waterloo Street now fighting for his life in hospital

DETECTIVES are investigating after a man in his 20s was left in a serious condition in Altnagelvin Hospital.

He was attacked in Derry in the early hours of this morning.

Police believe the man was involved in a fight with two other men in Waterloo Street at around 1.30 am.

Detective Chief Inspector James Mullen from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch said: “At this time we think that a number of other men came to try and break up the fight in Waterloo Street.

“I would ask them, or anyone who knows anything about this assault, to contact detectives.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information is asked to contact detectives at Strand Road on the 101 number.

Alternatively they can pass the information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
