duffy-homelessSINN Féin spokesperson on homelessness, Cllr Sandra Duffy has welcomed investment of £115,000 this year, by the Public Health Agency (PHA) and the Housing Executive (HE) towards Home Starter Packs for those people previously reporting as homeless moving into permanent accommodation.

Sandra Duffy said: “Although we do not have the serious problem in Derry & Strabane with what are described as street sleepers as maybe Belfast or Dublin we do have far too many termed homeless living in temporary accommodation.

“This investment by the PHA and HE to help address this problem is welcome assistance for those lucky enough to have secured permanent accommodation.

“The packs which are available in Derry through First Housing can include such necessities as a microwave, kettle, iron and ironing board, cutlery and crockery.

“I congratulate the PHA and HE on this initiative which will greatly reduce the expense of setting up a home for the first time.

“Anyone who requires information or assistance to access these Starter Packs can contact me through any Sinn Féin Constituency Service. I will be more than happy to help,” she added.
