CYBER CRIME ALERT: POLICE WARNING OVER RANSOMWARE INFECTIONS ON DEVICES

ransomware-pic-1POLICE are advising the public who have computers, phones and tablets to be aware of them being infected by ransomware.

They say that every in Great Britain and the North of Ireland, 90,000 devices are being infected with ransomware.

The PSNI have some useful tips to keep in mind:

• Do not reply to, or click on links contained in, unsolicited or spam emails from companies or individuals you do not recognise

• Only visit websites you know to be credible

• Ensure you have effective and updated antivirus software and anti-spyware. Also ensure your firewall is turned on and running before you go online

• Regularly back up all of your data including any cloud-based data

• 57% of ransomware attacks are against domestic households

And don’t forget there will also be advice this Friday at the Get Safe Online event at Foyleside Shopping Centre.
