Caoimhe-Archibald1SINN Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has congratulated the organisers of Science and Stormont 2016 on a successful event.

The event took place earlier this week with the theme of Anti-Microbial Resistance.

The vice chair of the All-Party Group on Science Technology Engineering & Maths said:

“This is a yearly event, which takes place to encourage good relations between the Assembly and the scientific community.

“The theme of Anti-Microbial Resistance is one that many of us will be aware of and are likely to become more aware of in coming years.

“These types of engagements are important to expose politicians and policy-makers to both the issues and the work and research which is ongoing.

“Evidence-based policy is important across all sections of government.

“It is important that the most up-to-date research findings can be incorporated into government particularly in fields like medicine, the environment and energy to name a few.

“It is also important that we are creating opportunities for young people to consider career pathways and subjects which will lead to jobs in areas of work which are currently expanding or will be developing into the future.

“Difficulties in recruiting appropriately skilled people is a common issue raised about STEM-related careers and we need to encourage more people to look towards these fields of work to develop and strengthen our economy into the future,” added the MLA.
