ANDERSON URGES SUPPORT FOR TODAY’S BREXIT CAMPAIGN

brexit-campaignSINN Fein MEP Martina Anderson has called on as many people as possible to support today’s Day of Action organised by campaign group, Border Communities Against Brexit.

The protests will be held at Bridgend and Lifford at 3 pm

Ms Anderson said: “I have travelled throughout Ireland meeting people since the aftermath of the recent EU referendum and it is clear there is widespread concern at its potential impact.

“In border areas in particular people are very worried about the British government’s plans to drag us out of Europe against our democratically expressed position to remain.

“Representatives of businesses, trade unions, charities, disability advocacy organisations, community groups and others have come together to form Border Communities Against Brexit and have planned a day of action for today at six locations along the border to call for our remain vote to be respected.

“Any strengthening of the border would be a backward step which would have a hugely negative impact on our communities.

“Sinn Fein is supporting this day of action and I am calling on as many people as possible to come along and take part today at 3 pm to send a message that we don’t want to see an EU border in Ireland.”

British Prime Minister Theresa May announced last weekend that she plans to trigger Brexit by March next year.
