CO Derry singer Niall Sexton has said he is thankful for his experience after his X Factor journey came to a shocking end at Judges’ Houses.

The 22-year-old, from Magherafelt, missed out on a place at the live shows – despite impressing mentor Nicole Scherzinger and DJ Calvin Harris.

Harris told Nicole he “loved his voice” but despite the glowing praise a heartbroken Niall was shown the door.

It was not the first shock of the night.

Sharon Osborne put through rapper Honey G over above two great male singers.

Against the stunning backdrop of the French Riviera, nervous Niall hoped the former Pussycat Doll would appreciate the originality of his performance.

With the stakes higher than ever, he made the unusual choice of covering the Spice Girls track 2 Become 1.

Niall said on Twitter aftewards: “I am so touched by all the support. ❤️ so thankful to X factor for this experience and to all of you for your messages . #WatchThisSpace

And he didn’t disappoint, with Nicole telling Calvin how much she loved the young singer and the Grammy-winning producer adding that he had been imagining his vocal produced in a studio.

In the end though, it wasn’t to be and Nicole was forced to break the bad news.

However, Niall has since tweeted to say he was touched by all the support.

And it seems unlikely that will be the last we hear of the Magherafelt man, who has already hinted at more to come in a cryptic tweet about “an exclusive secret …”
