MULLAN SLAMS BREXITEERS OVER MISSING MILLIONS FROM HEALTH

brexit-busSDLP East Derry MLA Gerry Mullan has slammed Brexit campaigners for ‘blatant lies’ in the run up to the referendum about money which would be allocated for Health Service spend.

Mr Mullan asked the Finance Minister in the Assembly today what discussions he has had with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt about the promised £350m per week for the Health Service.

He said, “The Leave campaign was characterised by a series of hollow promises and blatant lies. None greater than the commitment to return £350 million for Health Service spend every week.

“Today in the Assembly I asked the Finance Minister what correspondence he has had with the British Health Secretary about the provision of £350m per week and what that would mean for health services locally.

“Unsurprisingly there has been no correspondence because it was always a fantasy concocted by Leave campaigners who then, Pontius Pilate like, washed their hands of the situation.

“The British Prime Minister may continue with her misguided mantra that ‘Brexit means Brexit’ but every day it becomes increasingly meaningless.

“The truth is that The British Government doesn’t know what Brexit means and neither does the Executive.

“That’s because both realise that the interests of our people are best served within the EU.

“And that’s why the SDLP will continue to use every legal and parliamentary mechanism at our disposal to defend the will of people here,” added the MLA.
