SINN Féin Foyle MLA Martin McGuinness has said Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has his full confidence and support as Finance Minister.

The deputy first minister rowed in behind Mr O’Muilleoir as he faced calls to stand aside as Finance Minister.

It followed revelations Sinn Fein MLA Daithi McKay and his party worker pal Thomas O’Hara were coaching loyalist blogger Jamie Bryson before he gave evidence to the Stormont finance committee investigating the Nama ‘fire sale’ of Northern Ireland bad debt properties.

Mr McGuinness said:  “Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has my full confidence and support as Finance Minister.

“Calls for him to stand aside are ridiculous and are nothing more than petty party politicking.

“Máirtín is engaged in vitally important work as Finance Minister in dealing with the real crises created by the referendum result and Tory austerity.

“Máirtín will continue with that important work.”

Mr O’Muilleoir said yesterday that he would not be standing aside and called on his opponents to “put up or shut up”.

Last week, the Sinn Fein MLA was on holiday which he cut short to go to the Basque country for a meeting was Finance Minister.
