THIS is another ‘run around’ car which has been taken off the streets of Derry making the roads that much safer for drivers and pedestrians

And it is all thanks to Galliagh Community Empowerment who were alerted to the Donegal registered Toyota Corolla car which was abandoned in the Slievemore yesterday.

A similar car to this 99-reg model was said to have been “causing a nuisance” in parts of Derry on Thursday afternoon.

At one point shocked drivers watched the car travelling the wrong way across the Foyle Bridge in Derry.

Stunned motorists had to pull into the side of the road in an effort to avoid a collision with the small red vehicle.

The car involved was travelling from the Waterside end of the bridge on the wrong side of the road.

The incident is said to have taken just after 3.30 pm.

Although some motorists believed the two cars were the same, a video of the incident on the bridge shows the car involved is a four door small Rover vehicle with a large dent in its rear passenger door.

The GCE say they were alerted to the Donegal-reg Toyota by residents.

Said the GCE: “The PSNI where contacted by the residents and basically told it was not their problem.

“The GCE had this car removed to safety.

“It will be causing no more problems in the Galliagh area.

“We would also like to thank the residents of Slievemore for alerting us to this car.”
