Bins set alight at Moss Park in Galliagh last weekend

A RESIDENT’S community group has called on young people to end the wanton destruction of property in Galliagh.

Last week, bins were set on fire and criminal damage was caused to a property at Moss Park.

The Police say two youths and an adult were arrested for criminal damage, theft and arson.

Members of the Galliagh Community Empowerment were on the scene at Moss park where bins were set a light on the road.

Following an altercation,  a window was smashed in a flat with a two week old baby inside.

GCE says the group and residents want and end to the criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.

“We talked with residents and people involved and got the young fellas to move on and then we got the new mother out of the situation and somewhere safe for her and her child.

We would thank the resident for contacting us.

“And as always were always willing to help and try to resolve these issues.

“We were happy to stay to everything was calm and residents felt safe.

“We would say to these young people involved stop what your doing if not for yourself for your community.”
