DERRY Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has said the quick actions of the Fire Service prevented a car fire spreading to homes in Elmgrove last night.

He was speaking after a car was set on fire on the Beragh Hill Road just after 8pm.

Councillor Hassan said: “I received a call to say a car was on fire at the Beragh Hill Road.

“I went to the scene and I would say we are very lucky once again as this situation could have been much worse.

“It’s important  to commend the quick actions of the Fire Service in preventing the fire from a burning car spread from the bushes to local homes in Elmgrove.”
